If you pick the wrong symptom, you usually waste time on the wrong fix. This page helps you separate a true no signal problem from a black screen problem in under two minutes.

| Problem | What the display usually shows | Best next guide |
|---|---|---|
| No signal | The TV says no signal, no input, or keeps searching for a source. | PS5 No Signal |
| Black screen | The display wakes up and seems connected, but the image stays black. | PS5 Black Screen |
The display never locks to the PS5 source, reports no input, or drops the source completely.
The display reacts to the PS5, but the image stays blank or goes black after the logo.
The picture flickers, cuts out, or changes when the cable moves.
No signal more often points to input selection, a dead cable, failed handshake, or HDMI port damage. Black screen more often points to resolution, HDR, HDCP, safe mode, or a bad boot state. Both can still overlap with real HDMI hardware damage, which is why cable angle and port fit matter so much.
