Work through the checks
Inspect with power disconnected
Look for a broken tongue, bent contacts or a displaced connector without inserting tools. Do not wiggle the cable repeatedly to force a picture.
Separate the cable and display
If the port is not visibly damaged, compare a suitable cable and another display directly connected to the console.
Record mechanical evidence
A loose connector or visible contact damage justifies a port-and-pad inspection. Include a clear description with the repair enquiry.
Ask what the repair quote covers
A proper assessment should distinguish port replacement, damaged pads/traces and faults further along the video path. These do not have identical repair scope.
What to record
- Exact model and accessory revision
- Results of each comparison, changing one variable at a time
- Error messages, failure conditions and data that needs preserving
What the result can tell you
A repeatable comparison is useful evidence for the repair options below. Match the replacement to the exact model and confirm the fault before ordering.
Stop if there is liquid damage, a damaged electrical connection, swelling, or unusual heat. Back up accessible data before storage or recovery work.
Parts and repair options
Use these as candidates to test. Match the exact hardware revision before ordering a replacement.
HDMI port
Candidate when physical or electrical connector damage is confirmed.
Pad / trace repair
May be needed if board connections were damaged; cannot be judged from no signal alone.
Signal-path diagnosis
Needed if the port is sound and known-good external equipment still fails.
