If you choose the wrong symptom, you usually follow the wrong repair path. This page helps you separate a true no signal problem from a black screen problem on Xbox Series X.
Updated: April 2026
| Problem | What the display usually shows | Best next guide |
|---|---|---|
| No signal | The TV says no signal, no input, or keeps searching for a source. | Xbox Series X No Signal |
| Black screen | The display reacts to the Xbox connection, but the picture stays black. | Xbox Series X Black Screen |
The display never locks onto the Xbox as a valid source.
The display sees the console, but the image stays blank.
The picture flickers, drops out, or changes when the cable moves.
No signal more often points to input selection, cable failure, handshake problems, or HDMI port damage. Black screen more often points to resolution, HDR, refresh rate, or a bad boot state. Both can still overlap with real HDMI hardware issues.
